ROME – Home favourite Jannik Sinner upset top-ranked Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2) at the ATP Finals in Turin on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

The 22-year-old ended Djokovic’s 19-match winning streak that had stretched back to his loss to Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s Wimbledon final.

“It means a lot to me. When you win against the world number one who has won 24 Grand Slams, it’s obviously in the top,” said Sinner.

“In these kinds of matches very few opportunities will be presented and if you don’t use them, then the other player will,” said 36-year-old Djokovic.

Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece withdrew with a back injury after playing only three games against Denmark’s Holger Rune.

The ATP Finals represents the year-end climax to the men’s professional tennis season, featuring the top eight singles players and doubles pairs.
